Customer projects - project management

Project management is an important success factor when our software is being introduced. The mdv project managers come from the development and support areas. They therefore know the products and our customers' requirements down to the finest detail; so they  can give competent advice, successfully manage projects for mdv customers and implement customer requirements.

The experience that mdv gains from international products and collaboration in research projects ensures that we are up to speed at all times, which benefits all of our customers during projects and further developments.

The objective of mdv project management is to accompany the user from the time when the order is placed to regular operation and over the next few years of system operation. Here it is irrelevant whether the customer is using mdv products for the first time or existing systems are being enhanced. The following procedure shows the steps that are followed during an mdv project.

Kick-off meeting

A kick-off meeting takes place at the start of the project, at which

  • the service to be provided by mdv
  • the project documents to be created (requirement specifications/performance specifications)
(see specific program development for more information)
  • delivery dates
  • training and project deadlines
  • customer work

are agreed.

Deadline and milestone planning

The detailed schedule for the project is derived from the requirements. It is logical and normal to define milestones (e.g. performance specification accepted) during the course of the project.
On bigger projects it is advisable to carry out the system in several phases. These phases are then individually accepted by the customer. This ensures that rapid feedback is received from the customer / user and that the project progresses positively.

Training

User training is an integral constituent of the projects. For large projects a training plan is drawn up that takes into consideration the customer's personnel resources and the time that is needed to apply the knowledge that is learned and acquire data. Please refer to our Training pages for more information.

Regular project meetings

Project meetings are carried out at regular intervals until the end of the project. These are used to:

  • monitor project progress and adjust the project plan if necessary
  • discuss the next actions to take
  • assist the customer in carrying out concept work
  • discuss work that is required with regard to external data providers and/or recipients

Project meetings usually take place at the customer's premises with the mdv project leader.
If meetings with a wider scope are needed with external service providers that are involved in the project (e.g. transport authority projects, transport operators with AVLC link) they take place during workshops.

Support

The Support area assists customers with program and concept matters and during the project phase.

  • The Support area is manned from 9.00am to 6.00pm on workdays.
  • Support work is free of charge during the project phase and the warranty period.
  • More information can be found on our Support page.

Project acceptance

Completion of a project constitutes a joint acceptance date. Topics of this date are:

  • joint checking of the functionality of the system
  • determination of existing problems (if any)
  • documentation of acceptance

The acceptance date is the starting point of a six-month warranty period.

Half a year after the acceptance test a support and maintance contract should be agreed.
