Distributes journey planner with DELFI

mdv is the co-developer of the distributed journey planner with DELFI  (Durchgängige Elektronische Fahrplaninformation). The first phase of the project was started in 1996 by the Bundesministerium für Verkehr (Federal Ministry of Transport) and released in 2004 by the "Bundesminister für Verkehr, Bau- und Wohnungswesen" (Federal Minister for Transport, Building and Housing).

DELFI involved the development of a shared data model and an information system interaction protocol. A journey from Munich to Berlin can now be calculated in sections by MVV (Transport Authority of Munich), Deutsche Bahn (German Railway) and VVB (Transport Authority of Berlin). The distributed calculation also removes the need for timetable data forwarding, which some providers considered to be problematic. This distributed calculation of information is the method that makes the most financial sense, particularly since the use of geographical data and the emergence of real-time data.

All IJP Servers support the DELFI protocol.
