Special performance features of the presentations
In all mdv presentation products the main focus is on
- Fully automatic generation of the presentation products on the basis of current data, which reduces the amount of work involved for the transport authority and increases data reliability
- The requirement to make the visual layout comply with the authority's CI specifications and the technical timetable restrictions
- Minimising the number of pages, which reduces the authority's printing costs
- Making the printed product file size as small as possible, which is relevant as far as internet information is concerned.
Integration in EFA
All mdv presentation products are integrated in EFA. The printed products can be generated on the basis of the current timetable data via EFA (entire timetable books are not provided because of the file size, just route-specific pages). Here it is important not to provide pre-calculated PDF files but generate "fresh" PDF files via EFA for every inquiry. Since the same presentation modules are used as the basis for both the DIVA management programs and EFA information, it can be ensured that the PDF files from the DIVA management programs correspond to the PDF files that are available in EFA.
Different layouts
Each user has their own layout. The layout is agreed with the user and usually contains the user's CI specifications. In order to make subsequent layout changes, the majority of layout parameters can be adjusted by configuring files in xml format.
Optimisation
The optimisation targets vary depending on the presentation product, meaning that the optimisation potential is different for each presentation product. All optimisation facilities are automatic.
The aim of optimising the mdv timetable book is to cut down the user's printing costs. This is easiest to do by reducing the number of pages that are required. Optimisation of the font sizes in the timetable is not required, so that the overall layout of the book can be standardised. Various automatic route-grouping rules are used to reduce the total number of pages instead.
The reason for optimising the mdv timetable poster is usually to provide an optimum display of all relevant timetable data on an A4-sized sheet. The format restriction is usually because of the cases in which the posters are displayed. Comprehensive font optimisation and various special optimisations (line breaks, trip frequency displays) are available.
The mdv CBS poster works using font optimisation so that as few pages as possible are generated. The target format is usually a DIN A0 poster.
Advertising integration
One thing that all presentation products have in common is that advertising can be automatically integrated, provided that there is enough room on the printed product. External financing of part of the printing costs is therefore available to the transport authority.
