During the course of the previous few years, mdv has succeeded in integrating GIS into timetable scheduling by consistent further development of the DIVAGeografie product (abbreviated name: DIVAGeo).
The use of this geographically coded information has allowed the EFA system to be developed into a real intermodal and multimodal information system. The GIS data are not just used to efficiently calculate door-to-door information, but the customer is also provided with dynamically generated, made-to-measure maps for pedestrian routes and transfers. The use of the PDF document format combines the advantages of having a top quality map printout and a small file.
The Atlas module was implemented in the EFA system at the same time as the PDF maps, making it possible to display trends for any number of DIVA routes and stop positions from DIVAGeo on the basis of a geographical map for planning purposes.
The standard achieved long ago by other DIVA programs has therefore been repeated in public transport cartography: the manual generation of top quality information media is replaced with a method that is essentially automatic. This does not just offer considerable money-saving potential, but is also a way of providing up-to-date information by integrating these products into the information system.
As well as the general optional planning maps, the following products are available that are also provided to public transport customers as information material:
These maps must be of extremely high quality, since hand-drawn maps are being replaced in many instances. Concealed links are revealed by automatically moving items aside, for example.
