In 1972, mdv was founded as an engineering firm for technical and research-based data processing, primarily for the development of transportation planning software. In 1978, the company moved from a small room in the university district of Munich - Schwabing - to office space in the bustling neighborhood of Haidhausen.

An order from the Munich Tariff and Transport Association (MVV) helped spawn
1979 the birth of
DIVA (transport planning software) and a subsequent order
1988 the first EFA (electronic journey planning) with BTX processing (screen text).

In 1990, the company was renamed Mentz Datenverarbeitung GmbH.

In the early 90's, DIVA migrated from the intermediate data technology on Nixdorf computers to a Unix system and then in 1998 to a Windows system.

The first orders from outside Germany came from Switzerland and Austria.

In 2001, we were awarded the London tender, which resulted in 2002 in the launch of our largest EFA to date - the TfL (Transport for London) Journey Planner.

In January 2006, Mentz Datenverarbeitung Schweiz GmbH was founded, with the establishment of Mentz Datenverarbeitung Austria GmbH following in June 2006.

The Melbourne Project in 2003 (EFA for the State of Victoria) helped successfully establish EFA on another continent.

In November 2008,
mdv Australia Pty.Ltd. was founded.

In the meanwhile EFA systems are also up-and-running in Dubai and in the U.S.A.

Today mdv is a system vendor with 100 employees in Munich, Münster, Stuttgart and Berlin. Together with the three subsidiaries in Switzerland, Austria and Australia, the company had a turnover of more than 11 million Euros in 2009.
